Academic Partnerships

To celebrate the momentous milestone of 175 years of IIT Roorkee, IITR@175 initiative aims to reach out to institutions within 200kms of Roorkee for collaboration, help start research in the areas of importance, augment creating labs and attract funding from various Govt and non-Govt organizations. This well integrated plan involves avenues of collaboration not only in research and innovation, but also opportunities and support for startup incubation and commercialization.

Highlights
IITR@175 Partnerships

IITR has collaborated with 5 academic institutions that were selected competitively amongst 14 different institutes within a 200km radius of IIT Roorkee, based on various criteria such as:

  • Experience and qualification/profile of the faculty in the research area(s) of the Interest.
  • Total number of the publications in Q1 and Q2 journals by the Institute in last five years.
  • External funding received by the Institute in last five years.
  • Startup from the Institute in last five years.
  • NIRF ranking.

The partnership was started by signing the MoU with the 5 Partnering Institutes on 27th May 2022 at the Senate Hall, IIT Roorkee. The institutes selected are- Graphic Era University, Dehradun; Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun; National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand; Noida Institute of Engineering & Technology, U.P. and College of Engineering, Roorkee.


15 Tentative Research Areas (3 per selected University) have been agreed to work upon, between collaborators from IITR and the 5 selected institutes.

IITR@175 Fellowships/Internships/Incubation

Initiative has opened the following avenues for collaboration in the academic years 2022-23, 2023-24 or 2024-25 that will be offered to the academic or research institutions in the states of Uttarakhand, UP, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and UT of Chandigarh which are within 200 km from IIT Roorkee.

1. IITR@175 Fellowship

IIT Roorkee will award a maximum of 2 PhD Fellowships in an academic year to faculty members/scientists/engineers of AICTE or UGC recognized academic institutions or Govt funded research organizations who get admission in the full time PhD program of the Institute. The IITR@175 Fellowship will provide Rs. 15,000/- per month and an annual contingency amount of Rs 15,000/- for three years from the date of admission. The admissions will be as per the rules of IIT Roorkee.
In AY 2022-23, out of intake 02 Ph.D. fellowships have been offered.

2. IITR@175 Internship

IIT Roorkee will award up to 25 B.Tech/UG internships every year through IITR Spark program. The internship will provide an amount of Rs 10,000/- per month for two months.
In AY 2022-23, 10 students completed successfully their internship under this initiative.

3. IITR@175 Research Opportunity

IIT Roorkee will offer research opportunity to up to 10 M.Tech students every year. The selected students will be provided a stipend of Rs 10,000/- per month for six months.
Currently, 9 students have started their internship from September 2022 onwards.

4. IITR@175 Incubation Opportunity

IIT Roorkee will offer startup funding to promising ideas/innovations/prototypes developed under all schemes above.
