The Detailed Project Report for setting up the National Research Foundation developed by the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC) has stressed the need for the involvement of higher education institutions in research and knowledge creation. Keeping above in view, on the occasion of the launch of 175 Years celebrations of IIT Roorkee, Prof Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, called on all Higher Education Institutes (HEIs), in Uttarakhand and the institutes within 200 km radius of Roorkee in the neighboring states, to join hands for knowledge creation and collaboration in Research, Innovation and Development (R&D). As a part of these celebrations called as IITR@175 initiative, various opportunities of working with or working at IIT Roorkee were launched. Through this IITR@175 initiative, IIT Roorkee aims to reach out to institutions around Roorkee for collaboration, help start research and innovation in the areas of importance, augment creating labs and attract funding from various Govt and non-Govt organizations. 1. IITR@175 Partnerships One of these opportunities of collaboration is IITR@175 partnerships. Under this initiative, IIT Roorkee will mentor five selected academic institutions in: (i) the state of Uttarakhand and, (ii) institutions in UP, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and UT Chandigarh, which are within a distance of 200 KM from IIT Roorkee. 1.1 Format for Proposal Submission The proposal should include following information (Kindly do not change the format, please mention NA where information is not available): a) Name and address of the Institute: b) Details of the contact person: c) Provide list of research area(s) [max three] along with clearly defined objectives and outcomes (including execution plan and timelines), where the Institute would like to focus on to strengthen and develop research capacity. 1.2 Selection Guidelines The proposal submitted by the Institute will be evaluated by a committee. Following criteria may be kept in view for inviting the Institute for presentation and possible MoU: a) Experience and qualification/profile of the faculty in the research area(s) of the Interest. b) Total number of the publications in Q1 and Q2 journals by the Institute in last five years. c) External funding received by the Institute in last five years. d) Startup from the Institute in last five years. e) NIRF ranking.
1.3 Scope and Implementation MOU will be signed with selected Institute for collaboration and mentoring to enable creation of research capacity. The prospective research areas along with labs and faculty mentors at IITR will also be identified at the time of MoU. The scope of MoU can be but not limited to: 1. Joint guidance of Phd students registered at the partnering Institute (maximum 5 students per institute). 2. PhD Fellowships to faculty members of the partner Institute under IITR@175 Fellowship initiative above. 3. Faculty visit to IITR (max three) from partnering Institute as IITR@175 visiting researcher for limited time up to six months to collaborate with interested PIs at IITR. IITR@175 Partner fellowship of Rs 30,000 PM will be paid to the visiting faculty. 4. Provision of research scholar visit (max five) from these Institute as visiting student for limited time up to six months to work on project of interested PIs at IITR. IITR@175 visiting fellowship of Rs 15,000 PM will be paid to the visiting student. 5. Allow for joint proposals of funding to enable setting up research capability at the partner Institute. Mentorship in setting up research facility in latest areas. 6. Provision of visit of upto 1 week per semester by one faculty from IITR as mentor (for guest lecture, short-term course, joint workshops/conference, interaction, joint proposals etc.) to partnering institute. 7. IITR mentorship to setup and increase in the utilization of any available facility in the partner institute for research. 8. Access to the high-end facilities (at nominal cost) in IITR to the Institutes for the purpose of research. 9. Mentorship and guidance to build startup ecosystem at the Institute, as well as possibility of incubation to startups from the partnering institutes at TIDES IITR. The annual progress review of each MoU along with the review of fellowships programs will done in Feb-March of every year. Outcomes and performance of each partnership will be measured by: 1. Number of publications in Q1/Q2 journals. 2. PhDs awarded from IITR to faculty of the partnering Institute. 3. Joint PhDs at the host Institute. 4. Lab/Research facility developed at the host Institute 5. Commercializable products/protypes developed. 6. Number of startups from the collaboration. 7. External funding through joint proposals.
2. IITR@175 Fellowships/Internships/Incubation The following engagement opportunities will be available to: (i) All the academic/research institutions in the state of Uttarakhand and, (ii) academic/research institutions in UP, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and UT of Chandigarh, which are within 200 KM from IIT Roorkee. 2.1 IITR@175 Fellowship IIT Roorkee will award PhD Fellowships to faculty members/scientists/engineers of AICTE/UGC recognized academic institutions or Govt funded research organizations who get admission in the full time PhD program of the Institute in the academic years 2022-23, 2023-24 or 2024-25. The admissions will be as per the rules of IIT Roorkee. In an academic year, the maximum number of Fellowships which can be awarded to the employees of an institute will be two. The IITR@175 Fellowship will provide Rs 15,000/- per month and an annual contingency amount of Rs 15,000/- for three years from the date of admission.
2.2 IITR@175 Internship IIT Roorkee will award up to 25 B.Tech/UG internships every year through IITR Spark program for the academic years 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25. The internship will provide an amount of Rs 10,000/- per month for two months. The application details will be provided on the IITR Spark website.
2.3 IITR@175 Research Opportunity IIT Roorkee will provide a research opportunity to up to 10 M.Tech students every year for the academic years 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25. The selected students will be provided an amount of Rs 10,000/- per month for six months. The application details will be provided on the IIT Roorkee website.
2.4 IITR@175 Incubation Opportunity IIT Roorkee will provide a startup funding to promising ideas/innovations/porotypes developed under the opportunities 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 above.
