The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has introduced seven new academic programmes through virtual ceremony. The courses will be offered to students from the upcoming Autumn Session (2021-2022).

The Department of Water Resources Development and Management (DWRDM) at the Indian Institute of Technology, in tie-up with Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO), organised a panel discussion on Gross Environment Product. The key motive of the discussion was to raise awareness about the ecological issues and the need for a comprehensive strategy to shift from GDP-led economic growth parameters to Gross Environmental Product (GEP) measures for defining development. Many believed that economic stability could not be achieved as long as we would continue ignoring ecological stability.

Mumbai Angels Network, a premium startup investment platform for early-stage venture investments, has invested in Indi Energy, a forward-looking energy storage startup committed to developing energy storage technologies such as Lithium-ion and Sodium-ion batteries, solid-state batteries, Supercapacitors, etc. as a part of its Seed round. While the funding amount remains undisclosed, Indi Energy will be utilizing the funds in bolstering its R&D and scaling up its proprietary Sodium-ion battery technology. The startup has been incubated at TIDES-IIT Roorkee since 2019 and has also received prior investment from DST, Govt. of India under NIDHI- Seed Support Scheme through TIDES.

Researchers at IIT Roorkee have developed ethylene scavenging functional paper from pine needle waste, raising the possibility to create sustainable packaging materials in the future, as single-use plastic is mainly being avoided by environmentally conscious consumers. This research will aid in the efficient valorization of pine needles into novel functional paper and contribute towards sustainable development goals (SDGs).
