Standard and Calibration Laboratory (SAC) Laboratory is a part of Department of Electrical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India led by Prof. Manoj Tripathy. The primary goal of SAC Lab is to provide testing and caliberation of various electrical instruments. SAC provides caliberation services for smart meters, ammeters, voltmeters, pressure and temperature. The testing facilities available at SAC for various electrical instruments are electrical cables, relays, MCVs, fuse, energy meters, voltmeters, ammerters, LT and HT Panels, transformer conditioning monitoring, bus-bar testing and measurement of earth resistance of substation/Power station using SAC calibrated instruments. Apart from this, SAC lab facilitates UG/PG students to conduct experiments and understand the operation of various transducers and instruments

About SAC
Energy calibration is used for the calibration of measuring devices required to determine the magnitude and quality of power and electrical energy. With these Instruments, one can synthesize sinusoidal and non-sinusoidal pseudo power with harmonics, inter-harmonics, fluctuating harmonics, flicker, dips and swells.
Pressure calibration is used to calibrate pneumatic process measurement instruments or field calibration devices. It compares the output pressure of the device under test with pressure measurement standards. The output pressure is compared with pressures varying from lowest to highest range to ensure accuracy in pressure calibration of the device.
The property of bimetals, thermocouple and other measuring devices changes with use and time resulting in measurement drift, thus should be checked periodically. In temperature calibration, temperature of the calibrator provides a point of reference which is compared to calibrate the temperature of temperature measuring device. Temperature calibrator are mainly source of heat like ice bath or a furnace with calibrated display.
