Research Areas

  • Civil infrastructure of high speed rail track management system.

  • Remote monitoring of railway assets (track, stations, bridges) to be done.

  • Bio-disposable toilets should be designed. (Modular, prefabricated toilet design was shown by RDSO personnel citing the example of Kota railway station).

  • Engine noise analysis and management: sound proof walls to be designed/optimized.

  • To develop electrical drives, permanent motors of higher Horse power using silicon carbide based converter, lightweight materials.

  • To develop foam type materials for noise management, shock absorption and double walled panel.

  • Vibration issues should be addressed by improving rail wheel dynamics. Upgradation of draft gear, weight optimization wagons should be designed.

  • Bogies that cause minimum damage to the tracks should be designed. This is required for longer life and durability of tracks.

WDG5 LOCO

A5550 HP locomotive, WDG, is being developed by RDSO in association with DLW, Varanasi and EMD/USA. First such locomotive with speed potential od 90kmph has been commisioned at SBI shed in March 2015.

SPILL PROOF

Railway Board advised RDSO to develop a spill proof fuelling arrangement. RDSO studied the various fuelling arrangements being used in American Railroads by IOCL and also the one being used in aircrafts.

BOXNHL25T

BOXNHL25T wagon is fitted with Casnub 22HS bogies having suspension group of 14-outer, 14-inner and 04-snubber per boggie. The wagon has been designed for transportation of iron ores and coal etc.

BALLAST

Development of Ballast compaction measurement Device is being done in RDSO lab by using LVDT. The vertical displacement of rail under dynamic loading is being measured using this device.
