Development of Ballast compaction measurement Device is being done in RDSO lab by using LVDT. The vertical displacement of rail under dynamic loading is being measured using this device. This device consists of one LVDT mounted on a spring loaded arrangement, with the help of wire attached to rail seat as shown in the figure. The deflection on rail is transmitted to LVDT, and the data is recorded on recorder as shown. The field trial of the device is under progress.
