About the Department of Chemistry
The Department of chemistry came into existence in 1960 with an initial strength of 10 M.Sc students and 7 faculty members. Now the M.sc. intake has gone up to 36 and has a sanctioned faculty strength of 23. Unique features of PG education in Chemistry is that there are compulsory courses in Modeling, Simulation and Computer Application, Radiochemistry and Technical communication, not available elsewhere. The department proposes to pursue interdisciplinary research on contemporary problems of chemical Science relating to industrial, rural and agricultural development and Utilization of industrial wastes for generation of energy, chemicals and biopolymers will also be attempted to prevent environmental degradation. More than 250 of our students have been awarded PhD. degrees and more than 1000 research papers have been published.
