Welcome to Molecular Virology Laboratory (MVL)

It has been more than 10 successful years of our lab and we are constantly trying to do better ahead.

Viruses are placed in their own kingdom and not included in plants, animals and bacteria. It can contain DNA or RNA as their genomic material. Positive sense single stranded viruses (+ssRNA) serve as messenger RNA and directly translates into proteins. According to Baltimore classification it is classified under group IV which possesses a huge range of viral members. Several well known members are Chikungunya virus, Dengue virus, Hepatitis C virus, West Nile virus. Several outbreaks of these viruses across the world caused an alarming to scientific community for development of effective drugs to combat these pathogens.

DEDICATED TEAM

A successful research needs a dedicated team. We are a group of devoted people (PhDs, Post Docs and B.Tech/Msc interns) who are constantly investing their intellect and time towards the development of novel antivirals.

POTENTIAL TARGETS

Virus have complex life cycle which go through several checkpoints. We are constantly finding such targets which plays crucial role in viral life cycles. The combat with these targets can lend a hand for findings of novel molecules in drug discovery.

Latest Technologies

Continuous upgradation of technology invents latest equipments for enduring research. Our lab has been using several instruments since the establishment. Currently, lab is decorated with modern instruments which accelerates our research work.

INTERDISCIPLINARY WORK

A solitary research is not possible to come over big problems. Our group believes in a team work where different research fields go hand in hand. We have been closely associated with other research groups from various areas such as nanotechnology, physics, chemistry, chemical engineering.

On Antiviral Discovery

Virus have been a major life threatening factor for humans and other livestocks. It is a long story of combat between viruses and researchers but still many viruses are yet unbeatable. We are also working against alphavirus and flavivirus along with our dedicated team and wonderful collaborators.
