Dear participants,
As Head, Department of Earthquake Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, I take great pride in informing you about the 17th Edition of the Symposium on Earthquake Engineering (17SEE). The Symposium on Earthquake Engineering is a quadrennial event being held from 1959 for bringing together Engineers, Geologists, Seismologists and Scientists with the sole purpose of advancing the knowledge of Earthquake Engineering in the country. The conference also becomes the cornerstone on understanding the current status of earthquake engineering in our country. The resolution of the symposiums becomes the guiding force for future course of direction in upgrading earthquake engineering research in the country. Incorporation of earthquake resistant design features in urban and rural dwellings, initiation in the development and revision of IS codes and exploration of disaster mitigation planning are some major achievements realized as the end results of symposiums held earlier. I on behalf of the Department, wholeheartedly invite you to be a part of this event.

- Prof. Pankaj Agarwal (Head, DEQ -IITR)

Dear participants,
17SEE like its previous editions intends to bring together academicians, scientists, engineers, students and industry members from India as well as abroad for understanding the current status of understanding of earthquake engineering as well for finding newer directions to achieve a seismic resilient society. The three-day event will host eminent personalities from the field of earthquake engineering, who will enlighten us with their knowledge on different aspect of earthquake engineering. The symposium can also be an ideal platform for researchers, young and old, not just to showcase their strengths but also to upgrade or remove their weakness/ bottlenecks as well to bring their research studies at par with the international level. So come forth and be a part of 17SEE and share the responsibility of improving the status of earthquake engineering in our country.

- Prof. P.C. Ashwin Kumar (DEQ -IITR)
