The aim of technical education is to prepare a technical skilled category in the country. It is the typical style of education system departed from the normal conventional education. Engineering Colleges and Polytechnic Institutions comes through to a higher level in this sequence. In today's technological era where traditional education has been successful to some extent in providing employment to youths, youth having technical education is not obedient to any job and he can prepare a base of self-help employment through begining of his employment.

Government Polytechnic, Lohaghat has granted 20 Acre land in a place named Chamaniya Whose area is approximately 8 hectares. Since 1990, institute has transferred in his private building. This institute is situated at chamaniya which is 89 km away from Tanakpur railway station on Lohaghat-Barakot road and 4 km away from lohaghat where necessary residential and non-residential buildings has been constructed.

Government Polytechnic, Lohaghat provides Diploma course in Civil Engineering, Information Technology under technical education. Institute also provides 3 years Diploma in Pharmacy and 2 years Diploma in MOM & Secterial Practice. Management of engineering courses handled by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Pharmacy courses by Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
