The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee

Indian Institute of Technology - Roorkee is among the foremost institutes of national importance. in higher technological education and applied research. Since its establishment, the Institute has played a vital role in providing the technical manpower and know-how to the country and in carrying out research. The Institute ranks amongst the best technological institutions in the world and has contributed to all sectors of technological development. It has also been considered a trend-setter in the area of education and research in the field of science, technology and engineering.

The institute offers Bachelor's Degree courses in 21 disciplines of Architecture & Engineering and Post-Graduate Degree in 55 disciplines of Applied Science, Architecture & Planning, Engineering, Computer Applications and Business Administration. The Institute has facilities for doctoral work in all Departments and Research Centres.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has been ranked number one in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for Architecture and planning for four years in a row, from 2021 to 2024.

Department of Architecture & Planning

Architecture course started at IIT Roorkee in the year 1956-57. The department has the singular distinction of being the first in India in instituting a Masters degree course in architecture (M. Arch.) in the year 1969-70. The department embraces the concept of a broad and liberal education to prepare students for a rapidly changing future even as it respects traditions of the past. The department's programs reflect a belief that the architecture and planning embrace more than a knowledge of technical skills. It enhances understanding of human behaviour to create a better environment and new ideas to respond to the needs and aspirations of the users.
