The Centre for Railway Research (CRR) was set up at IIT Roorkee based on the MoU signed on 22-12-2015, between the Ministry of Railways, Government of India and Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee to develop a long-term framework for research collaboration. This is the Research Centre set up in an Academic Institute with direct and full funding by the Indian Railways. Indian Railways is the nation's premier organization for providing transportation service. Ministry of Railways is operating one of the largest railway systems in the world. Its countrywide network of approximately 67,368 kilometers carries over 8.397 billion passengers per annum and moves 1,000 million tons of freight traffic.
To fulfill the role, CRR IIT Roorkee has started its journey with the following goals:-
