The seed of Udbhav was sown in January 2019 by Singh Rahulkumar Sunil (Current Gen. Secretary, NSS IIT Roorkee), when a govt school in very poor condition was identified. Feeling obligated to work for the betterment of the poor situation of the school, NSS Volunteers organised a series of activities to uplift the school. It all started with the cleanliness drive under which our volunteers cleaned the entire school. To conserve the environment and increase ambience, saplings were planted around the school, walls were painted and different extra curricular activities were organised. An innovative "Kiran Library" consisting of more than 900 books & large number of learning models was also set up.
This session with a bigger vision, NSS IIT Roorkee scaled up the initiative by collaborating with 11 local schools to improve the academic and co curricular culture of the schools. We started with drawing competitions based on the theme "Swachata hi sewa" to inculcate the importance of cleanliness among the students. The competition saw a participation of over 5000 students (2000 girls). A quiz consisting of social awareness and aptitude questions was conducted in order to increase their excellence in social values and to identify unrecognised talents. The movie based on Mahatma Gandhi was screened to teach the students the values of peace and nonviolence. Regular events like Safe-India Ideathon, Teacher Day, NSS Day, Republic Day, Janmashatmi, Vasant Panchami & Independence Day Celebrations, English Speaking Courses, Plantation Drives using plastic bottles, Essay writing, Brain-Aptitude Tests, Sports competitions etc. are also conducted in CBRI government school.

It was in 1909 when the first women's day was celebrated. Decades have swept past since then, yet the fundamental for the celebration of this day remains the same. Women. On International & National Girl-child/Women Day, we appreciate the women in our lives, we open dialogue and discussions for the current issues and most importantly we seek to understand the various social and cultural boundaries that define and unite the women around the globe.
This year, we promote the theme #RespectThanProtect, as now, more than ever in history, is the time for all of us to understand the differences in society and realize that the only way forward is to have mutual respect for everyone. This change is not a necessity that sprung forward suddenly, but one that has cultivated over centuries and after all this time, we finally have the chance to do something about it. "Don't try to squeeze into a glass slipper. Instead, shatter the glass ceiling." ~Priyanka Chopra, United Nations Goodwill Ambassador Instead of following the society-laid path, one should find her own way to break free from the hackles laid by the people around you. A lot of women have overcome the hurdles of social taboos, broken all the social barriers and conquered the world. NSS IIT Roorkee salutes all the women who dare to dream and work towards achieving them and hope to see them fulfilled one day. #DareToDream
