While discussing the problems that came up with the students’ internships, we found out that many faced food problems (especially the ones with a foreign internship). The lack of basic cooking skills compelled them to eat out regularly, or live on instant noodles and chips, which can be agreed upon as an unhealthy diet. This sheds light on the prevailing problem of the lack of even basic culinary skills amongst college students. Culinary Club was started in 2017 by a bunch of foodies with a passion for cooking and a zeal to solve the aforementioned problems. We also wanted to start a student-run cafe, a concept which is popular in foreign universities but somehow never got implemented in India. Since our inception, we have managed to start a gastronomic movement in our campus, from keeping cooking competitions to serving a new menu every weekend as our cafe project. We sincerely hope that other universities in India start their own student-run cafe as a means of promoting culinary arts, learning a basic and essential life skill, and preserving their family recipes.
