With the goal to work for the betterment of society and instill the spirit of social service among the young students, IIT Roorkee established NSS at institute level, headed by Dean of Students Welfare, IIT Roorkee. Currently, NSS, IIT Roorkee has over 700 active members from different disciplines, working rigorously for community health care, literacy drives, and environmental protection.

Blood donation camps, AIDS awareness camps, informative lecture on human values,surveys and other such events are organized regularly. A total of 24000 hours was dedicated by only 1st year student voluntees to NSS IITR, this year. As highlighted by the motto 'NOT FOR ME, BUT FOR THE NATION ', the aim of the organization is to produce engineers who are socially responsible and work for the all round development of the nation.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Prakash Singh

The importance of pursuing our passion and working on it to serve the society was radiated in the guest lecture organized by NSS IIT Roorkee on February 8th, 2017, on the inauguration of the Civil Services Aspirants Club addressed by the Padma Shri awardee Mr. Prakash Singh (A former IPS officer).The motivation Mr. Prakash Singh intended to provide to every fella sitting over there was not just by a means of his golden words in the form of a texted speech but by the string of his own life experiences he faced at every step right from his preparation for such an exam to the bitter circumstances he faced in his tenure.

IRSC Guest Lecture

Living in an era where the news of people dying in automobile accidents has become commonplace, road safety has emerged as a matter of concern. It is a crucial topic that everyone must be acquainted with. In pursuit to create this awareness, NSS IIT Roorkee organised a guest lecture by Mr. Amar Srivastava, the co-founder of Indian Road Safety Campaign(IRSC) on 7th January 2017 at the MAC Auditorium, which witnessed a turnout of over 250 students.

Guest Lecture by G.G. Krishnamurthy

NSS IIT Roorkee organised the orientation session for the new first-year members in the MAC auditorium. The session was conducted by G.G. Krishnamurthy, an IITR alumnus himself. The session was highly informative and interactive and was chiefly based on concepts about how one should lead life, especially through the college years.

Revisiting Human Origins

NSS IIT Roorkee on 17 October 2016 organized a guest lecture by an eminent American Researcher Dr. Michael A. Cremo on “Revisiting Human Origins-Studying Archaeological Evidences for Extreme Human Antiquity”, in the O.P. Jain Auditorium of the Civil Engineering department. The speaker was very well received, with a huge turnout, both from the students and the faculty, with people resorting to sit on the steps when empty seats could not be found.
