Department of Mathematics
MAI-101 is a common course for all UG students of IITR. This course provides a foundational introduction to essential mathematical concepts, focusing on matrix algebra and multivariable calculus. Students will explore the fundamentals of matrices, including operations, determinants, eigenvalues, and eigenvectors, alongside applications in solving linear systems. The multivariable calculus component covers partial derivatives, multiple integrals, and vector calculus, equipping students with the tools to analyze and solve problems involving functions of several variables. This course emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, preparing students for advanced studies in mathematics and related disciplines.
It is a 4 credit course having 3 lectures and 1 tutorial per week. The weightage for grading is divided in three main componenets: (i) CWS including quizes; (ii) MTE; and (iii) ETE. There will be common grading for all UG 1st year students.
