Mission :

To create awareness and provide guidance to academic and nonacademic staff, students, scholars, and outside agencies on the practices and the rules of institute regarding intellectual property rights and obligations within the frame work of the IPR policy of the institute.

Objectives :

To promote academic freedom and safeguard the interests of inventor in creation and commercialization of intellectual property with legal support wherever necessary. To create an environment for acquiring new knowledge through innovation, develop an attitude of prudent IP management practices and promote an IPR culture compatible with the educational mission of the institute.

(i) Long Term :
Capacity creation in IP practice, education, training, research and awareness through a multidisciplinary approach.
(ii) Short Term (Five Years):
(a) Development of suitable academic programs in IP education, research and training.
(b) Providing a framework for analyzing the impact of Intellectual Property in development initiatives in the country.
(c) Dissemination of knowledge and information through outreach programmes

What is TePP?

Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of india, launched a novel programme in 1998-99, known as "Technopreneur Promotion Programme" (Tepp). The Programme is operated by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research(DSIR) under Department of science and technology(DST). An outreach centre of TePP, known as TUC, is opened at different parts of the country including at IIT Roorkee.

Objectives :

To promote and support untapped creativity of individual innovators. To assist individual innovators to become technology based enterpreneurs. To assist technopreneur in networking and forge linkages with other constituents of the innovation chain for commercialization of their developments.

What is Technology Transfer?

The Institute shall strive to market the IP and identify potential licensee(s) for the IP to which it has ownership. The creator(s) are expected to assist in this process. The Institute may contract the IP to Technology Management Agencies (Government/Private), for its commercialization.
For the IP for which exclusive rights have not been already assigned to a third party, the creator(s) may also contact potential licensee(s) on the initiative maintaining confidentiality and taking all necessary care so as not to affect the value of the IP, through appropriate agreements such as Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with the potential licensee(s) during technology marketing discussions.
If the Institute is not able to commercialize the IP in a responsible time frame, then it may reassign the rights of the IP to the creator(s) may approach the Dean, SRIC for the assignment of rights of the invention(s) to them.
