Rheology of Bitumen

It is the fundamental measurement associated with the flow and deformation characteristics of bitumen.

Bitumen Modifiers

To render bitumen suitable for special demands, such as high traffic, intersection, it is often mixed with different modifiers/polymers to form Polymer modified Bitumen (PMB)

Warm Mix Asphalt

It improves working conditions, paving performance and the environment. By reducing fuel consumption at the hot-mix plant, warm-mix reduces the carbon footprint of asphalt paving.

RAP Materials

Rap is defined as the reclaimed pavement materials which are removed pavement materials containing asphalt and aggregates. Rap can be obtained when asphalt pavements after their service life are removed by the process known as milling.

Cement Treated Base

Cement-treated base (CTB) is an intimate mixture of aggregate material and/or granular soils combined with measured amounts of portland cement and water that hardens after compaction and curing to form a durable paving material.

IRC-IITR Workshop 2019 Overview

Quality control in highway construction is essential to prevent the premature failure of pavements. Therefore, improvement of quality control in road sector stands mandatory from the view point of sustainable development. This workshop is a humble effort in this direction addressing the amalgamation of quality control for construction, use of alternative materials, emerging technologies, high tech machineries, along with their implication in the field of road sector. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) in collaboration with Indian Roads Congress (IRC) will provide a common platform to the engineers, academicians, consultants and professionals to exchange their concepts and ideas with peers and pioneers in the field of highway engineering. In this workshop the latest development in the areas of highway and bridge engineering will be shared through various technical presentations and the industry partners will showcase their latest technologies and machineries.

About Indian Road Congress (IRC)

Indian Roads Congress (IRC) was set up by the Government of India in December, 1934 on the recommendations of Jayakar Committee with the objective of promoting and encouraging the science for building and maintenance of roads. It also provides a national forum for sharing of knowledge and pooling of experience on the entire range of subjects dealing with the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges. IRC has now about 13,500 members comprising of engineers of all ranks from Central and State Governments, Engineering Services of Army, Border Roads Organization, Road Research Institutes, Engineering Colleges, Local Bodies and private enterprises.

About IIT Roorkee

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) is among the foremost institutes of national importance in higher technological education in the field of engineering, basic and applied sciences. The Institute’s Civil Engineering Department is the oldest and the largest in the country. It was established on November 25, 1847 as Roorkee Civil Engineering College and renamed as Thomason College of Civil Engineering in 1854. Majority of the graduates from the department are well placed in India and abroad. The department has an extensive range of laboratories, work rooms, facilities and latest equipment for training to both the undergraduate and postgraduate students. In addition to that these are also used for numerous research, testing and consultancy works.

About Roorkee, Payment, Accomodation

How to Reach IIT Roorkee
IIT Roorkee is well connected to Delhi by rail and road. It is situated on National Highways 58 and 73 and is on Amritsar Howrah main rail route. Some trains which are convenient for travelling between Delhi and Roorkee are New Delhi-Dehradun-New Delhi Shatabdi Express (12017/12018) and Dehradun-New Delhi-Dehradun Janshatabdi Express (12055/12066). By train, it takes less than 3 hours and 30 minutes to reach Roorkee from Delhi, so it is the fastest and most economical way of travel. Nearest airport to Roorkee is Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport which has Air India, Spice Jet and Jet Airways services from New Delhi. But most preferable airport, nearest from Roorkee is the New Delhi International Airport which is about 180 kilometers away. National Highway 58 from New Delhi to the higher reaches of the Himalayas passes via Roorkee. Roorkee is, therefore, well connected to all the major cities in the region by road. There are frequent bus services to this place from the Maharana Pratap Inter State Bus Terminal (Kashmere Gate) Delhi. Traveling from Delhi, Roorkee is located towards north approximately 170 kilometers. Take the highway NH58, and it passes through Roorkee. The city of Haridwar is located further on the same highway about 29 kilometers from Roorkee.
Limited accommodation is available in IITR Guest Houses, which will be given to those who make the registration at an early stage, on payment basis. Others are requested to arrange hotels on their own.
