IIT Roorkee marked a significant milestone towards sustainable energy and modern infrastructure with the inauguration of Phase I of the Piped Natural Gas (PNG) facility at its Roorkee campus. The facility, including the De-Compression Unit, was inaugurated by Prof. Kamal Kishore Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, and Shri Rahul Tandon, Business Head (BPCL - Gas), in the presence of Prof. U.P. Singh, Deputy Director, IIT Roorkee; Prof. Inderdeep Singh, Dean (Infrastructure), IIT Roorkee; Shri Vivek Vohra, CEO, HNGPL; and Shri Naveen Kumar, CFO, HNGPL. Implemented by HNGPL, a joint venture of BPCL and GAIL Gas Limited, the project has already seen the laying of over 15,000 meters of MDPE pipeline and will extend PNG connectivity to 14 hostels’ mess facilities and approximately 1500 residences across the campus. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision to promote cleaner, safer, and more reliable energy solutions, enhancing convenience while reducing carbon emissions.
