The ASME Student Chapter at IIT Roorkee is an undergraduate club comprised of students majoring in various fields of Engineering. Our mission is to promote and enhance technical competency and professional well-being of our members through quality programs and activities in engineering.
Brought into existence in the year 2007, this society has offered a plethora of technical knowledge and opportunities to aspiring students. The group is also well known for taking part in numerous competitions and exploring various fields in engineering.ASME IIT R chapter strongly believes in learning and sharing culture, thus their endeavors to organize events an participate in competitions.
Institute levels Events
Lecture series on robotics
We conduct a series of lecture series for freshmen during their first semester on topics like introduction to robotics, mechanical aspects of robotics, sensors, microcontrollers and Arduino programming. These lectures proved useful to many curious students and helped them have a well-informed start in the field of robotics.
To promote technical knowledge and hands-on experience on various engineering tools and software involved, we conduct technical workshops on CAD platforms like solid works, fabrication of various mechanisms, line following robots etc.
We conduct various competitions were the problem statements are revealed on the spot and students are to make prototypes of their ideas as a mechanical model. These events provide an opportunity for students to showcase their technical knowledge and competency.
ASME IITR also organizes “ARMAGEDDON” a robotic battle event as a part of Cognizance (Annual Technical fest of IIT Roorkee). This competition witnesses tremendous participation from teams across various colleges in India.
Participation and Representations
International Robotics Challenge(IRC)
Team IRC represented IIT R in the Techfest organized by IIT Bombay during the years 2017 and 2018, during our second participation Team IRC won 2nd place in the national level and 3rd place in the international level. Every year IRC presents itself with challenging problem statements thus making the team explore new areas of technology.
Team HPVC (Human Powered vehicle challenge)
ASME's International Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC) provides an opportunity for students to bring sound engineering design principles in the development of efficient, sustainable, fast and practical transportation alternatives. This competition is organized every year as a part of E-fest by ASME Asia-Pacific.
ASME IIT R has engineered two vehicles on account of our two-year participation, Team Faith (2017) and Team Nimbus 2k18(2018).
(NIMBUS 2k18) (FAITH)
Students Design Challenge
SDC Conducted as part of E-fest ASME Asia Pacific challenges the technical skills, to create robots that perform various competitive tasks. Every year this theme-based competition comes up with innovative problem statements that involve 4-5 teams competing simultaneously. Team SDC participated for the first time this year and engineered Robots that play football.
Every year the Annual Tech Fest “Cognizance” of IIT Roorkee possess a series of problems statements in the field of robotics and ASME IITR participates and secures a place in the top three positions every year.
Oral Guard Oral Presentation Competition
This competition is designed to emphasize the value of an ability to deliver clear, concise and effective oral presentations. Two finalists from each E-Fest event are invited to compete at the Society level at the International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition. One of our team members Vibhu Baibhav secured 1st position in Old Guard Oral Presentation held at E fest 2016 along with $750 cash prize, getting a chance to represent Asia in Florida, USA at international level.
ASME IAM3D Challenge (Innovative Additive Manufacturing 3D)
This Competition aims at re-engineering existing products or creates new designs that minimize energy consumption and/or improve energy efficiency. Team ASME IIT R was in the TOP 3 teams, to be further mentored for competing at international level.
A team member from ASME IIT R also won the second place in the “Impromptu CAD Battle” challenge held at E fest 2018 ASIA Pacific region.
