Welcome to the website of the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Roorkee. This website provides an overview of the academic programs, research activities of our department, research facilities, profiles of faculty members, and details of student activities.
The department of Electrical Engineering was established in the year 1946. Since its inception, the Department has been imparting quality education and conducting in-depth research. The department offers a four-year undergraduate programme (B.Tech.) in Electrical Engineering and runs four postgraduate (M.Tech.) programmes in Electrical Drives & Power Electronics, Power System Engineering, Systems & Control and Instrumentation & Signal processing. In addition to this, the department offers two Integrated Dual Degree programmes of 5 years duration, B.Tech. (Electrical Engineering) and M.Tech.(Instrumentation & Control), B.Tech. (Electrical Engineering) and M.Tech. (Power Electronics). The sanctioned students’ strengths of undergraduate students and graduate students are 165 and 60 per year, respectively. At present, the department has 162 Ph.D. students. Besides this, the department has sponsored students from industries and academic institutions as graduate and Ph.D. students. The curriculum is taught by a distinguished faculty combining academic excellence and real-world experience with dedication and commitment. These curricula are constantly updated to meet the changing requirement of the industry and to meet the needs of major stakeholders. At present, the department has 36 full-time faculty members. Our research strengths encompass the full gamut of cutting-edge Electrical Engineering technologies: Smart grid, renewable energy integration, AC and DC microgrid protection, Electric vehicle, Battery energy storage systems, Electric drive system, Wind energy conversion systems, Robust control, Nonlinear control, Robotics, Embedded and FPGA based system design and Machine Learning applications. Through these core research areas, our faculty are expanding the base of knowledge through numerous referred publications. We have state of the art research facilities to support our academic programs and research.
