Prof. Pavan Kumar B.V.V.S. was born in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. He completed his Bachelors and Masters degree at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Anantapur (A.P.) and subsequently moved to Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, for his doctoral studies. At JNCASR, he worked under the supervision of Prof. M. Eswaramoorthy in the field of porous materials wherein his specific interest was to use supramolecular strategies for pore engineering in mesoporous silica. After completing his Ph.D. in January 2015, he moved to the University of Bristol, UK, to work with Prof. Stephen Mann as a Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow. His research in Bristol was focused on designing and fabricating artificial cells (protocells) exhibiting autonomous behaviour. On November 14, 2019, he joined the Department of Chemistry, IIT Roorkee, as an Assistant Professor. His research interests are focused at the interface of the two upcoming fields of Synthetic Biology and Systems Chemistry.
