UMANG:
Umang, an annual event at DoMS, IIT Roorkee is organized by the students to provide an interactive platform to exchange views and opinions on current and emerging topics of contemporary interest. Umang is one among the many steps taken towards social responsibility, for it is symbolic of the department’s constant endeavour to bring about a positive change in the mindset of future managers towards society.
In an attempt to bring together the Academician and Non-Government Organizations for the dawn of a better tomorrow, a two day workshop titled UMANG-1 was organized on April 18th and 19th, 2006 with the theme of ‘Developing Strategic Framework for NGOs’. UMANG-2 was organized on March 18th 2007 with a focus on Rural Technologies; their adoption and implementation by the NGOs of Uttarakhand.
Umang-3, third in a row, held on November, 5, 2007, with ‘Microfinance’ as the theme.. “Microfinance” plays an important role in the fight against the many aspects of poverty by providing access to financial services. Interest in institutional microfinance has burgeoned during the last two decades as international lending institutions and NGOs have supported its development. Institutional microfinance has evolved into an industry with prospects for rapid growth on a commercial basis and the potential to reach million of poor. The seminar witnessed active participation from the NGOs, MFIs, banking Institutions, Consultants and students.
JIGYASA:
“Jigyasa”, a Quest for Knowledge, flagship event of the Department and has evolved along with the Department since its very inception. This is a national level paper presentation contest organized, conceptualized and executed entirely by the students. In the past, Jigyasa has turned the spotlights on Knowledge Management, M-commerce, Innovation, Emerging Technologies, Globalization and Digital Inclusion.
‘Jigyasa ‘07’, held on February 25, 2007 witnessed the participation of 64 teams from various institutes who vied with each other for the handsome prizes.
“Jigyasa ‘08”, entries for which closed on December 31, 2007 is scheduled to be held in January/February 2008, on “Government-Industry-Academia Collaboration Model”.
REGALIA:
This annual event aims to bring together all the DOMSONIANS. The first ever Alumni Meet of the Domsonians was held on April 15, 2006 and provided a platform for the alumni of the Department to interact with the current batch of students and faculty.
COGNIZANCE is a congregation of students from various institutes including IITs and IIMs, along with experts from the academia and industry to be a part of the celebration of knowledge, experimentation and learning. The best of the brains put their mettle to test as they compete in a plethora of events held in various disciplines of engineering, sciences and management. These events are so planned that in the process of exercising their academic intellects, the participants come up with innovations and solutions for the world to take notice of.
Cognizance 2007 at Department of Management studies (DoMS) which took place during March 23 to 25, 2007, aimed at facilitating the exploration of the corpus of knowledge management applications in a comprehensive, innovative and motivating manner.
EXUBERANCE:
‘Exuberance’07’ a Sports Meet was a two day event which witnessed the faculty, students and staff vying for honours both in indoor and outdoor games.
