Kshitij
Kshitij is the Institute literary magazine, founded on 14th September 1992 with the aim of promoting Hindi literature in the campus.
Kshitij started off with a group of dedicated students committing to bring out a magazine that would reinvigorate the love for Hindi literature on campus. With the magazine prepared painstakingly with original hand-written articles, sketches and paintings, the magazine would then be put up in the library to tickle the literary tastes of the myriad people who visited the library and wanted to take a break from the hard and taxing work.
An e-Magazine titled "Kshitij Online" was launched on 14th September 2003 on the Institute Intranet, which was a web portal completely in Hindi maintained by the Kshitij group and is honoured as the first literary e-magazine of IIT Roorkee in the language.
In 2004, the magazine came into the print format as a bilingual, with the first issue being launched on 30th April. The financing, designing, and editing of this magazine is completely handled by the students, and two issues are released every semester. In continuity with its traditions, Kshitij still brings out a wall magazine, which is released on Hindi Divas, 14th September, every year in the Central Library.
Kshitij continues to work as a platform for promoting and nurturing the literary talent of the student community of the institute, while remaining one of the most dynamic and active student groups on campus.
Kshitij is also the official media partner for Cognizance, the institute's technical festival, bringing out a newsletter titled Cogni-essence.
It receives frequent appreciation and guidance of the faculty, students and the established literary icons of India like Padmashri Gopal Das, Neeraj, Nagarjun, Namvar Singh, Dhanajay Singh, Akshay Kumar Jain and many more. The work of Kshitij has also been appreciated by the former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Dr. Murali Manohar Joshi.
