Institute Hospital
The Institute Hospital has a very modest beginning and was started in the form of a dispensary for students and staff-community. In 1965 it was turned in to a hospital where 2 doctors were on deputation. Today it is a 60 bed hospital with 24 hour emergency ward and a host of other facilities and laboratories.

The objectives of hospital are giving immunization, preventive approach towards health and treatment. Thus the activities include colour:
- Treatment.
- Regular check ups.
- Vaccination.
- Awareness lectures etc.

Recent major projects and developments in the Hospital during the last 6 months:
- Hepatitis 'B' vaccination as a regular feature in hospital
- Cardio-Vascular camp for people above 50 years of age .
- Blood Group detection camp for students.
- Free medical check up in Adarsh Bal Niketan as social service.

- 3 channel ECG machine
- Auto analyzer for detailed pathological list.
- Ambulance (Maruti Omni) purchased
- Aqua Guard facility
- Latest computer with e-mail facilities arranged
A new dispensary in DPT Saharanpur campus of IITR was started with the following facilities:
- Pathology section.
- Free vaccination like DPT/Polio-DT and family planning material and counselling
- Blood group camp arranged
Dental Care Facilities :
The earlier dental facility at the Institute Hospital was available for 2 hours twice a week. This facility was re-examined as it was found that within this time duration dental surgery was not feasible as it needed pre-appointment to patients and number of sittings. So, the new arrangement is as follows :
Availability : From Tuesday to Saturday
Timing : 2 Hours per day in the Morning (First 2 days OPD and next 3 days for surgical treatment on appointment basis)
Homeopathic Doctor:
Homeopathic facility has also been started at the Institute Hospital to be reviewed subsequently. Now the average daily OPD is 30 patients and average monthly expenditure on medicine is about Rs. 4000. Visiting schedule of the Homeopathic Doctor is as follows :
Availability : From Tuesday to Saturday
Timing : 2 Hours per day in the morning (The Visiting Doctor comes with his Attendant and prescribes the Medicines purchased by the Institute Hospital )
Blood Donation Camps :
Three Blood Donation Camps in coordination with NSS & Rotary Club Roorkee were organized at the Institute Hospital . One of the Camps held on Teachers' Day was inaugurated by His Excellency, Shri Sudarshan Agarwal, Governor of Uttaranchal State. IIT community consisting of Students, Employees and Faculty donated the blood. A total of about 500 units of blood were donated during the year.
Repair of Colour Doppler :
The Sigma 330 Colour Doppler machine of the Institute Hospital has been repaired and installed for its effective use by Doctors.
Computerization at the Hospital :
The first phase of the computerization of the Institute Hospital has been completed. Initial Training Programme has been organized, further process is on to train the staff and to overcome the initial problems on the basis of trial runs.
Semi Auto Analyser V-2 :
To augment the existing facility of the Pathology Lab, one more Semi Auto Analyser machine has been installed and is under trial run. This was needed as Hospital was facing difficulty due to large number of patients.
Faculty Medical Checkup :
The Medical Checkup for the Faculty at the Institute Hospital has been arranged. Similar exercise would be made for the other community on the Campus
Client Satisfaction Survey :
To have a feed back, the Institute Hospital has conducted the Client Satisfaction Survey for the various services being provided by the Hospital. Necessary steps are being taken to improve these facilities on the basis of input of this Survey.
