Star Gazing

Distant distinct twinkles of the diamonds in the sky form a formidable sight ...so graspable yet unattainable!!! .It is perhaps this dichotomy that allures young & the old to look at the sparkling lights, that can forge a lifetime fascination with science. It was no different for our ancestors who associated the sky with the Gods & the spirits' world. This forces us to understand what the stars really are, where they come from, what their fates will be & how in truth are they so intimately associated with our beginning. The serene night sky belies the churning cauldron of stellar birth & life. The stars are always coming & going, most dying quietly, some exiting in brilliant flash of destruction, all to be replaced by others waiting their chance to be born.

It is endeavor of Star Gazing Section to make the members familiar with the various stars and constellations which are visible at Roorkee and to furnish them with some fundamental knowledge about the astronomical observations for locating some of the mysteries of the stellar systems such as Clusters, Giant Stars & Nebulae and Galaxies etc. In the recent years Star Gazing section has made it a trend of conducting a Sky-Show during SRISHTI – the first of its kind in Roorkee.
