CHEMICAL ENGINEERINGThis department was established in 1963 and offers B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. Programmes. At master’s level, the programme is diversified into M.Tech. (Chemical) Computer Aided Process Plant Design and M.Tech. (Chemical) Industrial Pollution Abatement. These are considered amongst the best in the country. Teaching programmes emphasize the development of computational skills and IT applications. An industry-relevant M.Tech. Process Integration Programme for industry-sponsored candidates is to be started in association with Engineers India Limited and the Department of Process Integration, UMIST, U.K. Two new programmes—an integrated, dual degree programme in Hydrocarbon Engineering and an M.Tech. Programme on “Industrial Safety & Hazard Management” will also be started soon. |

CIVIL ENGINEERINGThis is the oldest and finest department of civil engineering in the country. The department provides education at B.Tech., M.Tech. (in eleven specializations) and Ph.D. levels. EARTH SCIENCESThe Department of Earth Sciences was established in 1960. The department is among the leading centres for post-graduate education, research and consultancy in Earth Sciences. It runs three post graduate courses, viz. M.Sc. (Applied Geology) (two years), M.Tech. (Applied Geology) (three years) and M.Tech. (Applied Geophysics) (three years) with various specializations (e.g., Petroleum Geology, Earth Resources Technology, Seismic Exploration, Well Logging etc.). EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERINGThis department is the only one of its kind in India and amongst a very few in the world. Established in 1960 as School of Research and Training in Earthquake Engineering, the department has been actively engaged in teaching, basic and applied research and in providing consultancy services in seismic design of almost all projects in the country. The department has rendered technical services to UNESCO on natural disasters for several Asian countries. |

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
The Electrical Engineering Department was a part of the Thomason College of Engineering from the year 1897, one of the earliest such specializations in the world. The department offers B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes. The department regularly organizes national level technical symposia like COGNIZANCE, CERA etc. The department has an excellent base in computer controlled electric drives, economic dispatch monitoring, operational control and planning of power system, biomedical instrumentation, DSP. The department interacts with public and private sector and the Electricity Boards of different states through sponsored R&D and consultancy projects and contributed in a big way in technology transfer to them. |

MATHEMATICSThe department attained its present status of an independent department in 1960. MECHANICAL & INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING
The department came into being in 1946. The Industrial Engineering programme was introduced in 1973. It offers B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes in various facets of mechanical and industrial engineering. PAPER TECHNOLOGY
This department was started as the Institute of Paper & Pulp Technology at Saharanpur by the Government of India in collaboration with Royal Swedish Government in 1964. Later it merged with the erstwhile University of Roorkee in 1978 and now forms part of IIT, Roorkee. The department offers B.Tech., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes. It gains immense importance in being the premier and only engineering programme in paper and pulp technology in entire Asia. The department offers courses in the entire gamut of Chemical Engineering with specialization in Pulp and Paper in the final semester. It boasts of a faculty to student ratio of 1:5 thus providing an excellent interactive environment.
