The Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, (IIT-R) is providing its expertise to bolster the Centre’s scheme of revitalising watermills in hill areas. The central scheme for development of watermills and setting up of micro-hydel projects (up to 100 kw capacity) mainly aims at the social uplift of the poor villagers of hill areas and to replace diesel-run mills with environment-friendly watermills.

A three-day tech-fest, Cognizance 2009, concluded at Indian Institute of Technology, here today. The fest witnessed huge rush of participants from various parts of the country on its inaugural day.As many as 15,000 participants registered themselves online and the number of on-campus registrations crossed the figure of 2,200, said organisers.‘Think Energy, Go Green’ was the theme of the year on which number of events took place during the fest. Landscape workshop, Six Sigma: yellow belt certification in quality control, aero-modelling, robotics workshop, 3-D photography, flash IT and bio-informatics, are being held here.

The group 'IITians for Holy Ganga' is demanding immediate stoppage of work on the hydro electric projects on the Ganges river in its traverse through the upper reaches of the Himalayas.
